State Teams

Representing Victoria is one of the highest achievements in archery at a state level. Each year, Archery Victoria selects teams to compete against other states across a range of national events. These teams bring together some of the state’s most dedicated and consistent archers.

What is a State Team?

A State Team is a group of selected archers chosen to represent Victoria at national competitions.

Selection is based on performance, consistency, and commitment across recognised events and ranking pathways. Team members compete alongside the best archers from across Australia.

For many archers, this is a major milestone, and a stepping stone toward national and international competition.

How selection works

State Team selection isn’t based on a single event, it’s built over time.
Archers are typically selected based on their performance at recognised competitions such as QREs and State events, along with their ranking results, qualifying scores, and overall consistency across the season.  Each team and event may have slightly different criteria, but all selections are guided by clear, published policies.

Who can be selected?

State Teams are open to a wide range of archers.

There are opportunities across different age groups, including youth categories, as well as across various bow types, divisions, and para classifications. Any archer who is actively competing and working to improve their performance may already be on the pathway toward selection.

More Than Just Performance

Being part of a State Team isn’t just about scores.

It also involves representing Victoria with professionalism and sportsmanship, supporting teammates, and contributing to a positive and respectful team environment. Selected archers are expected to show commitment not only in competition, but also in their preparation and conduct.

Your pathway to a State Team

Not every archer wants to compete at this level, and that’s perfectly fine, but if you’re aiming for selection, the pathway is straightforward:

  1. Start competing regularly at club and local level
  2. Progress into QRE and higher-level events
  3. Build consistent scores across the season
  4. Track selection criteria for your chosen discipline
You don’t need to rush, progression happens over time.
